What Does AGPAL Mean?
AGPAL accredits GP practices.
AGPAL stands for Australian General Practices Accreditation Limited.
AGPAL is the leading provider of accreditation for Australia's General
Practices. Over 80% of Australia's General Practices are accredited with
AGPAL.
AGPAL is an independent, not-for-profit body that aims to improve the
quality of health care provided to all Australians. AGPAL is not a
government run or funded entity.
What is AGPAL Accreditation?
AGPAL Accreditation lets you know that a general practice has met
standards of safety and quality. AGPAL Accreditation is voluntary.
AGPAL Accreditation cycle
AGPAL Accreditation involves a three year cycle where practices:
Perform
self-assessment against the RACGP Standards for General Practices.
Undergo a
survey visit facilitated by GP peers. Commence
a continuous quality improvement cycle towards best practice. Receive
documentary validation and recognition as an accredited general practice on achievement of AGPAL Accreditation.
By
meeting the standards and getting AGPAL Accreditation, a general
practice
shows its commitment to respecting patients' rights and needs, providing
a safe
place for care, improving patient health, and using safe, clean, and
appropriate
equipment.
For a
practice to be accredited the GPs also need to demonstrate a commitment
to ongoing education and training.
